SIP trunk fails to register — troubleshooting

Added a trunk on SIP Trunks, but the Health page shows Unavailable or REGISTER Rejected? Go down this list — the most common cause comes first.

1. The carrier does not accept our address

Many carriers, especially in Russia and Central Asia, block calls from foreign servers by default. Our server knocks, nobody answers, and the trunk stays Unavailable.

Fix: ask the carrier to add our addresses to the trusted list for your line. The SIP Trunks page has them ready to copy, with a short message you can forward.

2. Wrong login or password

The trunk shows REGISTER Rejected — the carrier answers, but refuses. Check the login and password. The login is usually the line number the carrier gave you (for example 000201820), not your public phone number.

3. Wrong server or port

Use exactly the server and port shown in your line's settings with the carrier. Some carriers have separate addresses for softphones and for phone systems, and a new line may answer on only one of them. MTS Exolve is usually sip.exolve.ru:5060, MTT cloud.mtt.ru:5060.

4. The line is not switched on in the carrier's portal

With some carriers the line exists after the contract is signed, but calls do not flow until you name a contact person in their customer portal (a section like «Contacts» or «End users»). Add at least one person there.

5. A trunk added long ago never registers

Delete it and add it again with the form — the platform then sets up everything the line needs.

What the status means

On the Health page, «Telephony status» shows each trunk: active = registered and ready; idle / Unavailable = no answer from the carrier yet (see 1); REGISTER Rejected = the carrier refused (see 1 and 2).
